IIRC, John Adams had a hand in it and gave them some duff info (even he can make mistakes), for which he's since owned up to and apologised.

When did the 72nd Airfix Cranberries come out?  2009?  They got their new designers in around 2010 and look at the leap in quality between the Spitfire PR19 (2009) and the Spitfire F22 (2012)

Yes Lee, 2009 according to Scalemates.

Neither the box nor the instructions have a date anywhere, though the latter are very 'Old Airfix' school in style.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)
