Humbrol 196 and the Buccaneer

Apparently this is a light grey and it looks - on screen at least - close to Halfords primer in colour.  Is this indeed the case?

However, and more importantly, did RAF Buccaneers have the same colour in their wheel well bays?  In general and more specifically the 1980s?  The instructions in ye olde 1989 Brick say Humbrol 40, which looks like another grey.

Having checked this morning with the relevant tinlets at Uncle Franks, the grey looks close enough to Halfords Primer for me to get away with.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Just seen this, so apologies for the late reply.
the Buccaneers u/c bay and legs were a very very light grey with a blueish tinge.
It's probably 1983 or so since the last time I had anything to do with Buccaneers,
But I'm fairly sure that's correct. If pressed I'd go with BSC381-697 Light admiralty grey.
And if I recall right the cockpits main colour was Dark Admiralty grey.

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

Dark Admiralty Grey is done by Colourcoats as M16 in their range with M23 being the Light Admiralty Grey if that's any help.

Having checked out colourcoats light admiralty grey I'd say yes but no, I remember it being much lighter
In colour although definitely with that blueish tinge. Still colour chips, your/my computer/tablet screen and.....

This is the Buccaneer wheel bay found at Yeovilton RN museum. I took the photo because I couldn't figure out how the wheel & leg retracted into it from the kits I have.

Yes that's what it used to look like in there, :thumbsup: only the paint was a bit more shiny
Of course that's a fair few years ago :rolleyes:
Still looks like Light Admiralty Grey to me, unless anyone has a BSC chart and Handy Buccaneer to check against  ;)
