Lifeboat launches, hovercraft and time wasted

I support the RNLI, and have done since 1970, when an 18 year old Rheged started a standing order on his student bank account. As a result,   I get regular emails from them, the latest being this :-  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vM8B8HV1O4    which you might find interesting.   That led on to "How do they get the boat back up the slipway?"  They do it like this:-   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9nAscRPqaU  and then I was intrigued by yet another video offered ; this one:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Inog40YZcYs  which has some interesting footage of a giant  Spackman-deafening device.

And before you know it, there's 25 minutes wasted when I could have been writing a backstory to provide entertainment for the group.

Please note, I tend to watch things like this with the sound off, so that I am not distracted by inane reporters: I apologise in advance if the soundtrack is rubbish.

Fascinating.

I reckon those guys at the Shoreham Lifeboat Station must have been practicing to get that boat back inside without even scratching the paint!

And thanks for the link on the hovercraft, but I question the narrator's taste in shirts, and the background music!  :o

Interesting, and some footage of the Vietnam 'Monsters', too.

Oh yes, some interesting stuff there Rick, thanks.

That 'Carry on APT' vid is a hoot. I'm in it and the filming session was just MIND blowing!  ;D

Glad to help - I'll have a look at some myself, when the speakers are connected... or when I'm somewhere where they are...

Oh, yeah - scrolling down a bit and there's THE HAT!!
Now I know where your pic comes from...

;D

My avatar pic here comes from the time the RAF retired their last three Canberras at Kemble in June 2006. That's 'MY' Canberra, XH131, I'm leaning against in the pic, the one I fitted an oil sampling valve to back in the 70s. And XH131 was the VERY last RAF Canberra as it landed last of the three.

Serious question.  Do lifeboats have wheels?

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Ah - it was the grey 'Kit-Supporting Device' that fooled me... and that THE HAT and Vest were the same... ;D ;D

Sensible (I hope ) answer.   RNLI lifeboats don't have wheels, but they do have substantial skids .......at least the slipway launched ones do.   Scroll down this page   https://rnli.org/what-we-do/lifeboats-and-stations/our-lifeboat-fleet  for more data.  I warn you now, once you start reading through this site..............it's another half hour (at least) wasted!

Thanks.  Watching the Shoreham boat being dragged back up into the shed made me wonder if there were wheels or rollers underneath.

AFAIK the rollers are in the centre-line of the ramp, they are on the Lyme Regis station anyway, but they only have an Atlantic 21 RIB and not a full-size Severn or Tharmes boat.
