I have just  spent a  while  looking for  early  royal navy helicopter decals, ie whirlwind and  dragonfly ones  but there doesn't seem to be any specific to these helicopters.  I  have  only seen  a  couple of kits of these helicopters, so maybe they aren't  popular enough? I  have  found a  replacement  mi 4 to do as a RN bird , so hopefully I can find some  decals for it.
Cheers, and happy new year to everyone.

Modeldecal may have done a sheet with a Whirlwind HAR10 on it I think. Something like that's ringing bells.

I'll have a look and see if I have anything that'll do.

Model Art is another possibility too.

Model Alliance set MA-72121 includes markings for a Whirlwind HAS.3 on HMS Ark Royal in 1956. I think this is long out of print.

Thankyou for your help guys, the model  alliance sheet would be  helpful for  other builds I have  but it doesn't appear to have any helicopter specific decals on it. I may  just look for that ark royal sheet as well  though, cheers

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Yup as said I think you'll need to look at some sheets that are either squadron or ship based Chris
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Marvellous, thankyou fellas
I shall  look into those  now.

That  Modeldecal 099 sheet with all the Wessexes is very handy, all SORTS of things you can do with it.

Specially as I flew in one of them on that sheet, XM841, at Culdrose way back when.  ;D

I am looking for if possible 1950's era helicopter decals, I like the Bristol sycamore, and with the help of the spares box and a 3 quarters complete Mil Mi 1, I want to do a what if sister of the Sycamore with it. I will have to source a set of rotor blades and hub etc and the tail rotor , which was quite a basic looking thing back then, plus some wheels. piston engine exhausts will need to be looked at too. The Mi 4 I have ordered may be able to help me with replacement scratch built parts for the incomplete one that is current being decontaminated, if I can do something with it which would be good, I could do an air force version  of it too.

Some good points already but, as someone else who has recently seen the light...

Look for generic sheets of squadron markings, lettering and similar. https://www.hahen.com/epages/64625185.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/64625185/Categories/%22Decals%20Militaer%22/%22Military%201%3A72%22 and others do them for many countries.

If the kit doesn't have stencils included then a few sheets for specific subjects will make anything look more convincing. For UK stuff in 1/72 ModelDecal did a huge range that can be put to better use. Many of them are being reprinted by Hannants sometimes as Xtradecal items.

Mossie

Hannants should cover most optiins. If you enter "RAF Code" into Hannants you should get everything you ever need from that point of view.
https://www.hannants.co.uk/search/index.php?adv=1&product_category_id=&product_division_id=&manufacturer_id=&product_type_id=all_decals&code=&scale_id=956&keyword_search=RAF+Code&setPerPage=100&sort=0&search_direction=0&save_search_name=&save_search=

The manufacturer's you mention should cover most of your Squadron marking needs, maybe add Model Alliance to the list.

A search for "RAF roundel" will get you pretty much every style and size you need:
https://www.hannants.co.uk/search/index.php?adv=1&product_category_id=&product_division_id=&manufacturer_id=&product_type_id=all_decals&code=&scale_id=956&keyword_search=RAF+roundel&setPerPage=100&sort=0&search_direction=0&save_search_name=&save_search=

Finally, any stencils or special markings you need can be found by searching for the aircraft type you want and selecting the scale and "all decals" under item type.

Thankyou for the information guys, I  have done the  mil mi-1 with  some  left over decals , it is very sparse, but it will do.  I  want to  do an mi-4  as a navy  or air force  whirlwind-a-like, and put a whirlwind  squadron markings  on it.
Cheers
