Blue light light-nings

Most police in the US these days use a combination of red and blue while fire departments use red and maybe white. I have seen a few vehicles use green also. Snow plows and tow trucks still use yellow. It can be confusing sometimes.

Addendum- Blue lights are used predominantly by police in Southern States, Chicago, and Boston (and probably some other municipalities as well, considering there are 89 thousand localities in the US), as well as volunteer EMS/Fire members in some states .  Green lights are used, generally, to indicate an Incident Command vehicle as well as a volunteer EMT in the State of New York.

I know it's a big country, but I'd have thought some US-wide standard for the lights would have made a lot of sense.

Yup.  Its also been my experience that no matter *how* many lights your ambulance has*, people will *still* ignore you.  To whit, two of the Teaneck NJ Volunteer First Aid Squad's rigs:


Volunteer and professional EMTs call them "The God Squad", because when there's low hanging clouds it looks like God Himself is descending from the Heavens when they're on a run.  They also have a generator *just* for their lights.  And they have a hospital within township limits (and two more within 10 minutes).

Back to the Lightning's, I found this:
