The Fairey Skyline

A thought just entered my head . What if the Fairey Rotodyne was converted into a fixed wing,  short range airliner?
With the removal of the rotor stack and or swept wings either turboprop or turbofaned engines two or possibly 4 with  longer wings. The rear would stay the same but with time become larger twin tail fins or reshaped. The landing gear would need to be replaced and another door at the front of the fuselage plus two at the rear.
The fuselage can be stretched (done that with the 1/72 Airfix kit).
Renamed the Skyline,  this could be used as a feeder airliner or island hoping. It might have led to a special missions aircraft for the military or just a troop transporter. Possibly C.O.D. with a few alterations or an AEW platform .

The wings from the A-10 and the engines can be fitted under or on top of the wings. I think the wings from the Lockheed S-3A Viking could also be used or a 1/144 airliner.

Mmmm, your plan is quite similar to a project I'm planning to do one day.

This is about a short haul airliner from two revell Rotodynes (1:80-ish?) and a B-66. The fuselage from the B-66 is the same as the rotodyne's and the rotodyne's wings are easy lengthened as they are straight. This makes quite easily a four engined (STOL) turbo prop. Not sure when to start the build maybe soon as all is complete.

That's a very cool idea, maybe ending in something a bit like a British Breguet 941. Actually - that got me inspired too!

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

That's an interesting looking machine that I'd never heard of, I'll have to look that up.

It's a very interesting machine. Interesting history and it also got introduced in the US in the civil market. For futher reading check also the Ahrens 404.

Did a little googling, I like that all four props are connected. I think it would be a suitable candidate to be turned into a tilt wing VTOL.

Hey I don't mind you guys using any of my ideas to build your own whiffs,  when I eventually get rehoused by Greenwich Housing and reunited with my stash I will be able to finish off all those started builds plus a few suprises.

Very much so. Indeed that photo prompts you to have that thought by making it look as though it's almost hovering
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
