That looks very smart indeed, nice job.

I have yet to see an explanation why the nosewheel on the -229 is so HUGE!  :o

I agree, a really nice piece of work.

As for the nosewheel, I remember reading somewhere that it was an item recovered from a downed Liberator.   That late in the war, the Hortens apparently had to scrounge and improvise, using whatever parts they could lay their hands on.  This may not actually be the case, but it's a believable story.

I've also read on the Wiki article that the first two prototypes used He-177 tailwheels, the third a 177 main wheel

Interesting, didn't know any of those facts.

My thoughts were that they used large wheels for use on unprepared or makeshift airfields, and the large nose wheel gave a high angle of attack on takeoff without needing a long stalky (and weak) strut arrangement...

That's come out really well.

It's well done! I have the chance to get a Pioneer 1/72 Horten Ho229 but should I splurge for the Revell kit instead?

If you have a masochistic tendency and have a knack for "art brut", the PM kit might be an option for you.
If you want a 1:72 Go 229 model, go for the Revell kit - it's very nicely detailed and goes together well.

I don't think I possess either of those traits but I do have two PM Go 229 kits...
