Makes me wonder if that turret with the extra storage cages/boxes would fit onto the compact M24 as a late update? There's also one in 1:35, but very expensive...

Worth a go Thomas. I have been looking at 1/72nd scale walker Bulldog kits and the ones I have found have been silly money for what they are.
Makes me wonder what sort of price differences there are for that Bulldog Chris when you consider how cheap the ol Tamiya 35th one is ..I scored a brand new one here for $22nz ...and that's a complete kit 👌
The only kit in 72nd scale I can find is the Armoury one, and you don't get much change out of 25 quid for one in some places, cheapest so far I have found is 20.

Jesus H christ mate ..dude I did the exchange rate thing and 25 quid is nearly $57 nz  :o  :o
Thats silly money for a 72nd scale tank kit..if it was for a model of the German 1000 ton Ratte then that would great but not anything the size of a M24 .
That thing would have to have so much detail it's frightening 🫣.
Totally true I could buy a 48th Tamiya Mosquito for ghe same price .
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

I can buy 2 m24's and have change for the price of the Armoury kit, plus I have a few spare rarden 30 mm gun barrels spare to use on them.

But I don't need to, as I already have two in the Stash.

Some dudes obviously think their stuff is far better than everyone else's..so they think their prices should reflect that..sadly their quite often wrong.

Like that Chris: the RARDEN's a good option. Mind you, I've always liked the Chaffee. It's hard to say why exactly, I mean, it's almost the definition of a 'normal' late WWII tank, but there's just something right about it somehow.

A Norwegian-style M24 with a 90mm and a 6V53T engine would partner up very nicely with some upgraded M113s, the latter maybe having one of the several 20mm turrets that have been fitted to them.

I know what you mean about the price of 1/72nd tank kits. The LHS has had some Takom double-Chieftain and Chieftain+FV432 kits in stock, and I look at them longingly every time I go in, but I just can't see my way clear to paying £35 for two 1/72nd scale AFVs no matter how nice they are.

Its not as though you are paying for detail or quality either, as I bought the Pantsir/greyhound that Armoury do, and I ended up putting it away as the instructions are stupidly vague, and the amount of P.E in the kit, put me right off it, so Armoury kits are a big no from me to be honest. Vespid stuff has rediculous parts counts but, they are just borderline price wise, but the detail is there I am just finishing off an old airfix Scimitar, of which the tracks went straight in the bin, and are replaced with white metal ones. The spare 90 mm gun could find its way onto another Chaffee, along with the mantlet and sight.

Fair enough.

Note that the spare gun on an Airfix Scorpion/Scimitar is a low-velocity 76mm, not a 90mm. It's not that different in character to the original 75mm on the Chaffee, although of course, if you can't get ammo for the 75mm then that's reason enough to change it over.

TBH, getting ammo for American 75 mm guns seems more likely than being able to get 30 mm Oerlikon KCB rounds :) But if the latter is in the supply system for some other vehicle already, it makes more sense.
... I know all this and more ...

AliExpress has a very basic and toy-like M-42 in 1/72-ish.
Really cheap, but you will probably have to do a bit to tart it up.

FWIW.

Cheers Rick, I have bought something similar off Aliexpress before, a set of modern armoured vehicles that included an M1 mine clearing vehicle. It is about 2/3rds the size it should be so I am dubious about getting anything like these from AliExpress.

Yup, the Duster was in the same range.

I didn't know some are undersized though, so probably just as well I've refrained... ;)
Likely built to a size, like the old 'fit-the-box-scale' kits we used to get.
