Prizes?

Hello all...it seems like a while since we had prizes for a GB, being mostly for bragging rights these days.  Nothing at all wrong with bragging rights, but as a Mod I'm wondering if some prizes might be nice for this one.  I'd be more than willing to foot the bill, though if anyone wants to chip in a few of whatever local Beer Vouchers you use I'd accept the help.

Given the global nature of the site I was thinking eBay gift cards might be a good prize.  We can ALL find something on there we like, and they can be delivered electronically.  Currently it looks like the US eBay site offers $15 and $30 cards.  It's not a huge prize but in whatever local currency it converts to I think it would be enough for anyone on here to find a kit, decals, accessories, book, tools, or paints.  What I had in mind was:

1st-$30 eBay Gift Card + sealed 1/72 Hasegawa AH-64A from my stash
2nd-$30 eBay gift Card
3rd-$15 eBay Gift Card

I'd like to do this regardless, but don't want it to be seen as undue pressure on other GB mods to do similar.  I love building for the hopes of 3rd place bragging rights, and expect nothing more so if anyone thinks it's a bad idea I'll drop it. Just thought it would be nice given the general misery of life on Earth lately to get a little something for the effort for the podium finishers.

Thoughts chaps?
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Pellson

Personally, I'm well satisfied with bragging rights, actually. I build exclusively for my own pleasure, at times using a GB as inspiration. But the GB unrelated production on this forum is equally inspiring, so..

Also given the geographical distribution of us participants, I feel that distribution of any physical prizes easily might become a bit unwieldy. And money, while practical, isn't much fun, is it?

Above said - I have so far participated in ONE (1) GB, so I should probably pipe down..  ;)

I have a very similar attitude as Pellson: I build primarily for my own plaesure, to manifest those weird ideas and "live out" creativilty. The GBs (as well as the Whiffies) are just a nice occasion and bonus, but I personally do not need a material motivation. I already found the Whiffies "certificates" a huge FIGJAM achiveement, IMHO it does not need more?

Rheged

I agree with Pellson and Dizzy, I create backstories purely for my own enjoyment and to entertain others. It's a very generous offer but I'm happy with bragging rights as my reward.

It is very generous of you to offer to supply prizes AD.  Thank you.
If you go ahead i'll chip in a few bucks towards postage.

Should anyone who feels strongly against the commercialisation of GBs win I suppose they could always refuse the prize, or even donate it to another forum member.

One thing does occur to me, are US dollar e-bay gift cards accepted on e-bay in other countries?

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

I feel I failed to enough praise the generosity you've shown here, AD, and I'm sorry for that. I should have started there. Even if I still feel that any rewards beyond eternal glory is unnecessary.  ;)

The only thing I'll say is that there is a danger it could create a precedent and make it harder than it is at the moment to get volunteer moderators.

I'm not against it per se, but it could just make my life as the GB organiser harder. Never the less I will go with the majority.

Chris

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

zenrat

While that might happen on other forums I feel we here are all sensible enough to realise that whiffing is its own reward and any prizes are a bonus and are not to be expected.

Fair enough, and there were prizes historically.

While appreciating your offer, I tend to side with Pellson, Dizzy, Rheged etc.
Modelling is a pleasure, the GB offer the possibility of sharing with like-minded people.
I am afraid monetary incentives or tangible prizes would generate the wrong kind of competition.
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Fiscal prizes aren't my motivation, either; although the offer is greatly appreciated.

I think the certificates I emailed to the place-getters for the Blue Lights GB were an appreciated &, probably, suitable reward.

That said, each moderator has their own ideas & it's their GB (within reason).

Ok it sounds like the consensus is for no prizes just bragging rights.  Maybe I'll find some nice certificates for the podium folks.

That would be great Nick. One of my proudest moments on site was winning a Wiffie Certificate
