I'm trying to decide how I want to build/display the turret # 2 area on my what if post-1989 USS Iowa battleship project.
Look at the photo below and then vote for which option might look/work best.
Leave a reply post if you have further opinions on anything.

Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

perttime

Keep it plain. It wouldn't really look like a flag with the hatches painted. Just something to aim at if you are looking at it from the air.

Why would you paint the hull number on a turret?

Regardless of which option I go with, I guess the other question I forgot to ask is:
Should I have the VLS go from bow to stern as shown in Option 1?
Or should I have it starboard to port as shown in Option 2?

I'm with Pertti on the painting.

Re orientation - where's your reloading crane? That should decide the orientation.

If you mean the reloading crane like this,

........it got discontinued to the best of my knowledge as it wasn't very capable of reloading missile cannisters while at sea from a support ship. All VLS cells have to be reloaded while the ship is in port.

How about this? Since the actual turret goes almost to the bottom of the ship and I think the VLS goes only maybe two decks, make the top VLS jettisonable overboard and replaceable by a whole new set from below it? I know you could only really put that in the backstory but hey, why not! Or is it too Gerry Anderson?
Don't pick on me it's late and I just took my pills.

That doesn't bode too well for an extended combat cruise. :(
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

What about vertical reloading from below?

That shouldn't be too difficult & means reloads carried aboard can be loaded in all but the worst weather conditions.
