Is there a 1/72 model of the Darkstar/SR-72 aircraft as seen in the new Top Gun movie?  It would look great sitting next to my SR-71 and YF-12A.

The Matchbox toy is it for representations of the fake aircraft in the film.

I'm sure someone will come out with a resin or 3D printed version at some point.

Thanks for the info; I saw the Matchbox and it is too much of a toy.  I would imagine that since the Darkstar is a real what-if, a good accurate kit (of the mockup in the film) will be a big seller.  I would buy at least 2 or 3.

Model manufacturer Fantastic Plastic made a 1/144 scale (I think?) resin model of Lockheed's SR-72 aircraft a few years ago. It doesn't look anything like the Darkstar, but it is "slightly" similar. With enough scratch building and determination, the SR-72 could be made to look like the Darkstar. ;)

Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Thanks for this link, seadude, very inspiring... (I will post in a CGI topic what jokes I created from these ones). ;D
[the word "realistic" hurts my heart...]
