I have seen it being called a landing craft which I suppose in broad terms you could say that it is in a way  :-\

Better than it being called a tank.  And, considering its primary role (as designed) was landing troops in amphibious operations, the technicality of calling it a "landing craft" does make more sense than calling it a "tank"

Reading the title I had my hopes up that the Buffalo was of the Brewster variety...

I read it as a little, short, tubby aeroplane, instead of a big, short, tubby 'tank' like thing too.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

That's because that's, in essence, what it is;

LVT = Landing Vehicle Tracked

Until it touches ground, it's a watercraft, a bobby, thrashy, splashy watercraft, but a "craft" none-the-less; once it touches ground, it's a "vehicle".
