What about crossing Heyford with the Soviet TB.3, stretch the fuselage and fitting a broader single wing in place of the bi-plane wings ?

Wouldn't you more-or-less end up with the Hendon?
Or at the least Hendonesque? ;)

Quite a pleasing looking aircraft.  I believe there was a vacuform of this which recently sold on EvilBay.

The thread was diverted on to kits of the Fairey Hendon for a bit.

With that big expanse of wing outboard of the nacelles the Hendon is crying out for 2 more engines.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Contrail have apparently done two Hendon kits over the years, neither being particularly accurate.  General Melchett on Britmodeller made a stunning job of his.

General Melchett always does a great job with his builds

Just what I was thinking.  And wouldn't it just look like a Lancaster had it been designed in 1928.

And General Melchett's build is excellent; I just hope I can do my Heyford (thread now officially back on track) half as well when I get round to building it.

Diverting to the Hendon once again (sorry....) I just went right through General Melchett's build and it's a veritable masterclass in vacform building, and on a Contrail kit too!

I knew the Hendon's wing was big, but I didn't think it was larger than a Stirling, it's IMMENSE! And whoever designed those fin and tailplane struts must have missed 'Drag 101' at the Aircraft Designer's College!

I think the struts are significant contributors to the lift at the tail, Kit.  ;D

I can believe that, there's surely enough of them!  ;D

Updated a post from 2014 to put back the drawings of the early B.19/27 concepts that had dead links.
Drawings show other engine options, Bristol Jupiter and Napier Lion, along with a conventional low-wing
layout. Drawings are now uploaded rather than linked.
