I dig them boxings, too. I've often wondered what criteria they use when they pick the fonts.

I have 6-7 of 'em myself. F-20, F-1, Skyhawk Trainer, Heinkel something-something, a Mentor (THIS one is damn cool, it comes with a 1/72 scale tug!) and some others I can't recall.

Here's the Mentor. Funny thing about this kit... even though you can see the tug in the art, it doesn't give and indication that it comes with the kit. It's not until you get all the way down at the bottom of the instructions that it surprises you with the fact that it is included.







Wouldv'e been nice if that MU-2S came with it, too . . . . . . 


EDIT: Speaking of, did you ever locate that MU-2J you were wanting? Been keeping my eyes peeled for one here in the US and so far no dice. It either went for an ungodly sum or I was broke that week.

Thanks folks.  I want to continue developing this type of scheme.  Maybe using blue shades on a Fullback.

Chris - My Gran's curtains were brown or green velour.  The only inspiration I could draw from them would be for a Star Fleet uniform or a really nasty suit.  I still have one which I use as a table cloth in my shed.

I think also 1970's caravan curtains too??  I will be searching the internet for 60's and 70's pictures of curtains cups and plates in the future Zenrat DPM scheme.

Brad C - Nope.  Haven't found an MU2J.  Thanks for looking.  One will turn up one day.  I can wait.  I have 20 something of this era of Hasegawa kits.  I'll stick a link in my blog to pics of them.  I think they just let their graphic designers go crazy with the aircraft name.

Not immediately. In part, the "Sabre dance" was due to the stall characteristics of the wing, but more importantly was that the stall speed coincided with an engine setting that didn't allow for any fast throttle response expect when using afterburner, and there was only an all-or-nothing afterburner. So trying to compensate stall with gas resulted in the dance. Once understood, pilots were taught to decide to land  once stalling, or go around. Nothing in between.

The proposed F-100S variant, featuring an RR Spey would most likely have cured the entire problem as that engine installation would have permitted better throttle response.

Great build Fred but ill be honest...I like the Miggen more ..that's more my type and one thing was getting me about its looks..yeah the rear LG is far forward but I'm not worried about it..still a bloody cool looking model and epic paint

As an elderly aviator of my acquaintance once commented  "The answer is quite often Rolls Royce..............now, what was your question?"   A Spey Hun would be a fascinating piece of transatlantic  co operation....as would the AS Sapphire powered F84 F Thunderstreak mentioned elsewhere in the honourable gentleman's posts.

In all fairness - the F-84F did from the start feature an American Sapphire, the Wright J65. However, the brits did develop the original engine further, which is why I chose it as a reasonably drop-in replacement.

As I'm sure you already know - the Esci or Italeri Huns are pretty nice kits too. Miles better than some other offerings from la bella Italia.
