It's a bloody good idea matey...the profile would look pretty good..would take a heap of plastic surgery but very doable...that's really got the brain pan working now ...I think I might have to look at a Xmas gift for myself ..be a change that would  ;D

Well to be fair I'm now looking at spending some money too, inspired by your SW 18 and taking about the delta Tomcat...

I have a F/A-18c kit in storage that several years ago I started planning to turn into a delta, problem is I gave up on it as I had pinched all four vertical fins (it had two sets for different versions in the kit) for a (failed) VTOL tailsitter project (I still have all the bits but I've sanded all the details off the fins). A shorter while ago I picked up another lesser quality F/A-18c kit, I may be able to use the fins from that kit, so I can start looking for some suitable wings again.

Ohhh a F-18 delta sounds good and dude I like that idea but that's all yours bud ...im gonna go broke looking for a F-14 ..the fun part will be finding one here which isn't Tamiya
Hasegawa might be worth a look at or a Monogram/ Revell if one can be found .

We might need a Delta Wing GB next year.  I'll add it to my list of suggestions.

That would be me the perfect reason to build one Fred..never been in a GB before.

Good idea for a GB

But I'll build mine outside of it, I've only ever taken part in one GB, way back when I joined the forum. I'd like to take part in some more but my building speed is just not up to it. In the last 5 years I've built nothing, but I have disassembled 4 aircraft so my 5 year build total is -4 :banghead:

I'm 42 now so I'll aim at getting a delta Hornet built by 50... Maybe.... :-\

I decided that I'd probably like to use SAAB Viggen wings on the F-18 but after having a bit of a search for a Viggen kit they are way outside of what I'm willing to pay just for a set of wing's (I would have no use for the remainder of a Viggen that I can think of) so that can remain on hold for a while longer...

I remembered though that I do already have a 1/144 Viggen so just need a 1/144 Hornet to give it a try in that scale. And I do have a 1/144 Tomcat too...  ;)

I've had a bit of luck on the 48th Tomcat front ..if the bugger is still there next week I'll have one for less than $65 which I'm quite happy about .
I am going to hunt down a 48th Viggen just because it's one damn cool and powerful plane and it's not going to be whiffed..just detailed and I'm with ya on the expenses  side of things..it's a heap of coin just for a pair of wings and without the right wings to wiffy the fuselage it would look just plain wrong and with the right wings you'll end up with a Viggen  :o  ;D
It will be very cool to see your build in 1/144 scale

I love the F-14L more than the XL.

Yup I remember that MiGgen, one of the best MiG-21's I've seen.

Not too sure about the main landing gear location, goes to show how much lift the Viggens canards produce if the CG of it's main wing is that far forward. But that aside I love it. A F-18 would avoid that issue as it would be using it's fuselage mounted gear, not the Viggens wing mounted units.

This gets better every time I look at it.
If it doesn't trap on a boat or do... things related to boats, I probably won't like it.

zenrat

Thanks.

Looking at it with fresh eyes the main UC may be a touch too far forward.
