QuoteThe obvious is the same camo schemes that have flown on their F-111's (either SEA & black or overall grey.)

Sorry Brian wrong comnclusion to make. The RAAF F-111's were in SEA scheme because thats how they were painted in America. If TSR-2 were ordered then they probably would have worn a scheme similar to the RAAF Canberras at the time, then gone grey in the 80's. the RAAF Mirages never wore SEA camo so it wasn't a RAAF preferred scheme just one they got stuck with.

Be interesting to see how RAAF camo may have developed in the Army aviation was anything to go by, they really do have some interesting schemes (bugger for us modellers to paint however.

Cheers

Good point, RAF never had SEA-schemes...  So from the UK we have 1) NATO olive green & grey (either wraparound or with lt. grey undersides), 2) anti-flash white, 3) barley grey & hemp, 4) overall hemp, 5) desert pink, 6) the overall field green color on the RAF Harriers and that's all I can think of now.

If you're going to match the Mirage's, the French would paint'em just about anything you want (Zaire had the weird two green scheme, lots of desert schemes to the Middle East...)

erm...actually,  we did draw up such schemes postwar. NEAF, MEAF, FEAF, Maritime, etc.  unfortunately apart from the NEAF. scheme (Hercules, Andover, etc.) they were little used except on export machines, a pity tho as RAF. types would look good in such colours!

Yep, the one scheme I would never want to see a RAAF TSR-2 in would be SEA and black as that ugly scheme was all F-111 and was a result of accepting what they were delivered in.

An alternate timeline RAAF with TSR-2's would be starting from a totally different baseline of RAF derived camouflage. That is the point of view from which I will be taking my schemes.

It is also why I appreciate the work in those alternate F-111 but they look way to "Yank" to ever want them on a British aircraft unless it was a USAF service version of one.

QuoteIf you chaps don't mind me chiming in here....  I'm all ears on the RAAF TSR.2's.  I produce decal art for a living, and there's a new 1/72 kit coming from Airfix (you do the math...).  If anyone wants to assist me in coming up with some viable "realistic" RAAF markings, I'm willing and able :)

Cheers,

J
*chuckle* Well, I don't know how realistic they are, but the art in the Carlo Kopp article I link to earlier in this thread certainly has some attractive schemes.

Can you imagine a RAAF TSR2 with corks around the canopy to keep the flies away?
