Spitfire PR.XIX Rearward-cockpit (Airfix 1/48)

A little progress over the weekend has seen all my current projects inching forward.

The rearward-cockpit PR.XIX has had its cockpit sidewall detail added from 15thou' Plastruct styrene rod, and then another coat of primer. The styrene rod was cut into 2cm lengths and curved slightly, then held in place with a wash of MEK. Its a method that works pretty well for adding small details to primed surfaces. The first two pics show before and after.

Third pic shows a dry-fit of the cockpit frames: quite encouraging! I just need to get that Interior Grey-Green and I can get it painted.

Crumbs, it's been a while!

Anyway, in between other projects I've done a little bit more, painted and Quinta'd the cockpit, which I think looks pretty good. I've used a seat from and Eduard kit in the end, and had to modify the back armour to suit. That needs a coat of cockpit green and then I can pop the seat onto its frame and add that to the fuselage side.

I've also given it a trial dry assembly, and apart from needing a little mod to wide the gull-wing area to suit the new fuselage profile, its looking nice.
