     Alternate History:


   The Silly Party wins the British elections in 1945. Mr. Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whim-
bim-lin-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Ole-Biscuitbarrel became Chancellor of the
Exchequer. He saw the RN plans for the Design X, derived from the Lion project,
(LION??!? WHERE??!?) (you may recall that the RN rejected Design X as too small) and
decides that this is  something the Treasury can work with. After suitable "treasury reductions",
and detail design work by the Ministry of Silly Walks, the ship was built, with only four main
guns. She was named HMS Python. A sister ship, HMS Pinafore, was cancelled by the
subsequent Sensible government.

    HMS Python was built at the Piranha Brothers Shipyard at St. Loony-up-the-Cream-
Bun-with-Jam, a yard previously known only for their Spiny Norman-class escorts,
armed primarily with hedgehogs. The main turrets were actually leftovers from the
"M2" battleship project after WW1, the 4.5" Mk 6 secondary guns were taken from the
cancelled Gallant-class destroyers, and the engines were taken from a  light cruiser, but the
Treasury forced the Royal Navy to deny all of this. "There is NO CANNIBALISM  in the Royal Navy!!"

     The ship was reconstructed in the early 1960s with a large helicopter deck
and hangar. (designed by the Royal Society for Putting Things On Top of Other Things)
The model portrays her in this configuration, during a visit by a blue Lynx helicopter from
the Royal Norwegian Navy's "Parrot" squadron.

     HMS Python's only notable historical achievement was the famous expedition
to Lake Pahoe, under the command of Vice Admiral Sir John Cunningham. (not
Sir Jane Russell, as some sources indicated) They found the lake at 22A Runcorn Avenue,
just by Blenheim Crescent.
