I'll be joining this Group Build with a project that's been on my to-do list for some time: the Napier Dagger-engined Hurricane project.

This was a real-world proposal that never got off the ground. The idea was to ease pressure on Rolls-Royce Merlin production by using alternative engines in second-line aircraft, such as Hurricane trainers, and one of those was to fit the air-cooled Napier Dagger. Wiki link:

I'll be using the current Airfix Hurricane Mk.I kit as the basis for the model. I'll scratchbuild the Dagger cowling, using the Magna Models Martin Baker MB.2 kit as a pattern to work from. I'll need a couple of air scoops as well for the carburettor and oil cooler intakes.

Thanks for looking in!

Cheers,
Mark

A cracking looking engine, the Dagger.

I used one for my Defiant IV, and it fitted a treat.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

That's an excellent Defiant! I was wondering how well the Dagger would fit a Merlin fuselage, width-wise particularly - very well, I'd say!

It did fit very nicely, the build thread's here if it's of any use. Just ignore all the rubbish about fitting the turret, I made a pig's ear of that.  :banghead:

The Hawker Hector used the Dagger and is a good guide for the likely appearance of a Dagger Hurricane installation.

Welcome aboard Mark 😀
You've already got Kit's approval but I'm surprised he didn't mention something about longer wings 🤔 😅
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Brilliant, thanks  the Dagger was a longer engine than the Merlin, so maybe that's good enough ;)

Would I suggest anything as weird as that?  :o
