I get what you say about the open side of the platform - I would have cut off one of the end rails and put the stairs there.

It depends on what I end up using these with. I might try to think of a way to make them repositionable. If nothing else a glue I can pop off.

While I had my metal bending mojo going I decided to tackle the Metal Earth present my daughter gave me a while back. It appears to be the Disney version of the Jules Vern Nautilus. A little more complicated than the platforms were but not nearly as bad as I had feared. Its not perfect but I think it's pretty good.





I think I have the "out of your comfort zone" contest at my next club meeting covered!
I must say it went together well with some decent instructions included. The only problem was installing the propeller or whatever it was supposed to be to the rear of the hull with the rudder in the way. Oh, and some more extra metal parts for future use. I am thinking of buying other of these Metal Earth kits to build and a couple, like the Ferris Wheel for whiff parts.

I've applied some "steel" colored paint to the platforms. Worked out well. It was the Vallejo duraluminun acylic for airbrushing. Worked quite well for dry brushing. Pic will be added soon.

Some of the Metal Earth stuff that's coming out these days is pretty amazing.

The parts sheet had been precolored. Somehow they were able to color only the parts and not the entire sheet. Other parts were uncolored. A few had a pattern stamped into them on the opposite side. Overall a nice change of pace.

That looks great. I've built their Lancaster and a Star Wars Star Destroyer. Fiddly work but the outcome is worth it.

Rolling a sheet of metal to try and get a cylinder would be impossible. And the dome would look terrible.

Exactly..been there..did that ...fecking hated it ..but man the things we do for friends.

I think rolling the metal over a slightly under sized tube or pipe might help. For a dome? I think a steel ball and a hammer. A small one....... At first.

When I built this all my belongings were in storage and that was nearly 110ks away from me and what's in the storage shed..my rolling set and a special tool used for curving light gauge metals .
But not having that I used some copper tubing from ripped out plumbing and a broken wooden door knob 
Oh I was renovating a mates new home and I was homeless at the time so renovating Tony's first house gave me a roof and a job 🙂
Also guess who builds 90 percent of T's models 🤪

I've looked at a few more Metal Earth kits and a set of mandrels would be helpful. Different size nail sets would do in a pinch for the little pieces.
