Malaysia used the C-130MP for maritime surveillance duties,  so did the Royal Air Force down in the Falkland Islands but there hasn't been a dedicated maritime surveillance version built yet. Lockheed Martin has tried to promote the idea with a few concept models but not a full conversion of the C-130J.
Many whifferters have built the 1/72 C-130 kits, once the two fuselage halves are glued together the cargo hold becomes very dark. I intend to build a pod from clear plastic so that I can see the interior details, parts for this will come from the Airfix Avro Shackleton MR.2 and a rummage in my spares boxes should provide the seats.
The C-130 doesn't have a weapons bay,  the SC-130J overcame this by extending the sponsons of the main landing gear and adding extra pylons under the wings. A sledge could be another way of deploying  anti-submarine and anti-ship missiles.
Sonorbouy launchers could be fitted in the sides of the rear fuselage, FLIR and SLAR are other options. The search radar will come from the Airfix/Revell Sea King ASaC.7 with the Freightdog deflated 'dustbin '.I have the searchlight from the Hasegawa Shinmeiwa PS-1 model.
As for the M.A.D. boom this could be fitted to the vertical tail fin, due to the angles of the take-off and landing.
There was a few maritime surveillance proposals for the C-160 not built but this could be an alternative, as I've always wanted to build a four engined turboprop version.
Other alternatives include the G.222/C-27 Spartan and the C-123, probably a kitbash Argosy of the two Mach2 model kits.

And the RAF used them around the UK when the Government grounded the entire Nimrod fleet.

An island nation with almost ZERO maritime patrol capability, you couldn't make it up!  :banghead:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

With regard to to things that go bang, if you hearken back to the days of yore when the Vulcan B2 was under development, Avro had proposed (but never actually built ) underwing pods to be hung on the Skybolt pylons. Each pod was intended to hold  12 x 1000lb GP bombs.
A similar idea might work for your C-130?
Hates rivet counters! Eats JMNs for breakfast!

The Victor also had under-wing bomb panniers planned. A bit like a latter day Wellesley..............
