This GB might be the right occasion to continue with this project, which ended up in pieces in a bag because it turned out to be not eligible for the GB it was originally intended for, and its thread now resides in a sorry state here: https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=51283.0

The plan is still this here, a German V200 diesel-hydraulic locomotive in Danish service/colors:



Hope I find enough mojo to tackle it, not easy at the moment. 

A basis (Märklin 3021) is there, already disassembled and stripped off of its enamel paint over some weeks in a brake fluid bath, and I have organized suitable DSB decals in the meantime and considered some mods and improvements for the metal body.

Some time ago, things started with a 2nd hand Märklin 3021, and it went through several weeks in brake fluid to get rif of the HIGHLY robust enamel paint on the metal body:

Now it's time to pick up the pieces (literally) and make something from it.

Is this the one you were cutting up the frame and moving the motor around?

No, that was a different and MUCH more complex "kitbashing" project (https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=50891.msg978111#msg978111). This one will basically stay original, just with some cosmetic mods to the hull beyond the DSB livery and small hardware upgrades, including (single) clear windows for the driver cabins and engine bay, instead of the opaque grey sheet.

Things started moving again, with body work: a major conversion is to get rid of the Deutsche Bundesbahn markings that are molded into the metal hull, and in the same wake I try to eliminate the 3D aluminum profile trim lines around the hull. Lots of grindwork - never did something like this before, but seems to work...

Wow, do Marklin still use die casting for their body shells then? That can't have been cheap! 

A great way to add traction weight, most other manufacturers switched to plastic shells and ballast weights these days.

I remember seeing some aircraft kits from the 1950's that had all the markings as raised lines.

Well, the 3021 is a vintage item and has been - with updates, though - around since the late Fifties, IIRC, and it's probably one of their most produced locomotives. Better variants/new molds followed, though, and after a switch to plastic hulls Märklin actually went back to metal hulls, even though not exclusively. This is one of the later 3021 molds, with the "DB cookie", the modern serial number "220 xxx"  and w/o the early "Deutsche Bundesbahn" lettering on the flanks.

A thin control coat with grey primer reveals some more grinding work to do - even though some areas like the "V" under the windscreen have been eliminated well. But on the flanks there's a lot mor to do...

...and called for another all-round grinding turn to get rid of trhe upper trim line...

...and I eventually also decided to get rid of the lower 3D trim line. DSB locomotives had a rather dry livery, and there will be no paint "waterline" later, everything will be coal black. The jury is still uncertain whether I will extend the black are up to the headstock (as shown in the CG picture above) or keep that lower area red, too. Both options were used on real-life MY/MX locomotives, which are the closest benchmarks for the V 200.

Looks messy, and it is. And loud, too!

I just dug the project out band started on it, because I needed a distraction from massive recent job problems...
