Luft46, Afrika Korp: Me-262

Me-262 units gradually became specialized anti-bomber force as American B-45 Tornado raids increased.
The max weapon and fuel load out necessitated RATO to deal with the high and hot conditions.






This is the old Airfix 1/72 Me-262 (01030) released in 1960, bought in the late 80's making it possibly the oldest rescue from my shelf of doom.  If you know this one, you know that amongst the odd shapes is the canopy which is too wide, too tall, and too short all at the same time.  I cut it apart to distract and add a bit of interest.  Scratch built X-4(ish) missiles and pylons and RATO units, and external fuel tanks from the parts yard.  This was another opportunity to play with "desert splinter" theme.
