This is my interpretation of the Lockheed SC-130J maritime surveillance aircraft mixed with the anglicised proposed version of the Lockheed SC-130B, not quite the BAC. 222 specified variant. Using two C-160 kits.
The problem of using a cargo aircraft for anti-submarine and and anti-ship warfare is the misuse of the interior space. The engineers have to get creative on where the weapons and sonorbouys are going to be housed with the lack of a bomb bay. Then how many pylons can be fitted to the wings without stressing them.
Many studies have been carried out and as this is a pure whiffery example there will be exceptions to the rules of flight and over loading.
I have in the past tried building a maritime C-130 using a 1/72 Airfix kit Project Top Hat which turned into The Madhatter powered by four Rolls-Royce Griffon engines with four Viper turbojets from two Avro Shackleton MR.3 kits.
My next approach would be to use the engines from the C-160 as they seem appropriate rather than those taken from the Revell Breguet/ Dassault Br.1150 Atlantic kits but if I had two Heller or Revell C-160s I would use one as a donor for the other model. A fuselage stretch could be achieved well forward of the wings, the rear might be a complicated for me.
Having attempted to build the 1/72 Revell C-160 which in my opinion is over engineered and very challenging when fitting the main landing gear maybe the Heller model might be a better option.
There's a rendering of an extended sponsons to house the torpedoes down each side of the fuselage, this could be scratchbuilt or I could use the MH-47E fuel tanks as a failsafe alternative.
This is going to be a long-time build, it's very dark inside the Revell C-160 so the interior fittings will be photographed before the two halves are glued together. Unless I can come up with clear resin parts for the fuselage or create a pod which slots in the cargo hold.
No kits have been purchased at the time of writing but I did find a lined drawing of what the interior could look like.
Further research has revealed that there was the C-160 ASF variant intended to be the maritime surveillance/ASW version using a lot of parts carried over from the Breguet Br.1150 Atlantic. Although not a four engined aircraft a lot of what I have suggested has been included in the scale mockup models.
Unfortunately this never made it into production, a twin jet powered and a front loading variants were also proposed.
Various AEW concepts were also presented but no customers.
