1/72 Moskalyev SAM-9 Strela (Arrow)

This is an early delta wing plane from the late 30s:



It was a quick build and the fit was excellent. The hardest part was the final paint job; I didn't feel motivated to replicate the boxtop. Some Google searches show that the original plane could have been a single color - aluminum paint over the wood surfaces or all red.

I got in touch with my inner EricR and went with the all-red version, with only modest weathering:







Overall a quick and trouble-free build. I was tempted to whif it by adding jet engines, but in the end, I liked the basic shape and kept it unmodified.

I keep thinking of one of the other Strelas when I keep seeing the title...the ones with the explosive warheads. :rolleyes:  :wacko:
