Moving this from The Idea Bank to here. The old Frog/Novo Tupolev SB-2, not for the faint of heart.

She's in the paint shop

Rudder is done in Republican colours

Missing a couple of gear doors, both ones are for the right side of the nacelle, so a couple of lefties will need to be scratched. Construction-wise it would have been easier to forget about them and go with the optional skis, but I don't believe Spain gets a lot of snow. Rain, yes, mainly on the plain, (Lerner and Loewe reference ;D ) but no snow.

Markings will be for the 'Real World' Canadian contingent, the volunteer MacKenzie-Papineau Battalion, commonly known as The Mac-Paps. In my universe they managed to avail themselves of a bomber, and since this was in my stash, and some actually served for the Republican side, the choice was easy. Watch out, you fascist swine, the Canadians are on the job!

The Spanish Civil War is one where I could never find any common ground with either side Communists-v-Fascists ... Not much choice, really.

However, I found this line very interesting;

QuoteA good percentage of those Canadians who enlisted had been born in Europe, the two largest groups being Finns and Ukrainians.

One wonders why, given that most of the refugees of fighting age from these countries would have been anti-Communist ... Unless they were just anti-Soviet, with a more nationalistic view of Communism. :unsure:

Nice work on the kit, though, Rattus! :thumbsup:

Then you have the "Third" side. The Anarchist Government of the Barcelona region. The Soviet forces spent more time fighting these then they did the Nationalists at the end of the War.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

With Finns and Ukrainians involved I would bet on them hating the Soviets/Russians more than anything else.

DAMN AND BLAST IT!  :angry:  Broken prop blade, and it isn't even one of the ones I was trying to straighten! The one I was trying to straighten is still distinctly curved, and not even immersion in boiling water helped.  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

Found a piece of plastic from a toothbrush blister pack, and it seems to conform almost perfectly to the fuselage at the upper turret, so it looks like it will take the place of the missing transparency.

And, once again, NEVER THROW AWAY ANYTHING! Especially drop tanks and rocket pods. You never know when a little tube will come in handy. In this case it was to make missing gear doors. The two on top are the kit originals, the bottom ones are the new port side undercarriage doors that were missing.

Interesting tip! I too have a Novo SB-2 missing transparencies. I am following your build with interest. A plane that would be a natural in the arctic GB.
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Good work on the wheel-bay doors, Rattus! :thumbsup:

you're really doing a great job on that old kit. A long time ago, in a other galaxy I build three old Frog SB-2s. Very time consuming !
