QuoteWhat Aegis did you use to get the white sensor tower?  Saw something like it but could never track it down
Sorry, missed this earlier...

The front sensor stack is scratchbuilt, all sheet styrene.  The back tower is off of a Ticonderoga class, with mad crazy amounts of cutting before making a styrene tower base so that the arrays clear the deck.  Of course, now I have to make a retracting crane cuz that darn thing still gets in the way. :dum:

QuoteAll the White stuff was scratch built sheet styrene?! Im impressed!!  BTW were the Aegis and the Iowa the same scale (I cnat quite tell, they look like it, just cant tell) or were they diffrent scales?

Thanks for the answer.
Anything white was sheet styrene and lots of cutting.  :)

dark grey bits are from a USS Cowpens (IIRC) in 1/700 and the Iowa is also 1/700, the recentish skywave version.  There are some assorted parts from an Arliegh Burke and some skywave equipment sets in there as well.

QuoteAnyone know where I could scrounge up some 1/400-1/500 th scale Iowa spares, specifically gun tubes for the main and secondary batteries to have a 1/700 upgunned Iowa?  Also looking for 1/700th vertical launch tube panels.  Looking for a large decent sized dome as a sensor array.

Anyone know how dificult it would be to cut up the turrets to install an extra gun ala Richelieu to have 8 22"/52 Naval rifles A B (superfireing) with VLS tubes in back as a heavy support ship. (perhaps should add 1/700 Richelieu turrets to my scrounge list)
The only 1/700 Richelieu is in resin, a rather expensive model to cut up. However, if you have the funds, go right ahead. Since you want to remove the after turret for your model, just cut that one up and splice it into the other two.

For the VLS any of the Ticonderoga class models will have two, and later Spruance class models will have one.

For a dome, try looking around your home for round objects you can paint; no need to buy a whole model when a large BB or such will do.

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

Rusty White is currently in the process of converting the Tamiya 1/350th scale Iowa Class Battleship USS New Jersey into something called a "Heavy Assault Ship" for more information on this go to this link:  Rusty White,'s Battleship Project.  I like what he has managed to cobble together so far and am looking forward to seeing part III of the conversion project article.

Not authoritative, but explains why "we cant build them like we used to" in regards to battleships:

You can't build ships like this today.  Much of the armor was forged on site at the yards where they were built.  The tooling is long gone.  They are very low mileage ships and have been upgraded within the past 20 years.  Not my idea of upgrading, but I'm an Army puke, so what could I possibly know?  Quite a bit, since I'm an Artillery Airborne Ranger Army puke who has a good understanding of reality and fantasy, although the people in the Department of the Navy far exceed me in the latter category due to their daily practice.
