Now that I've solved the problems with my airbrush, I'll soon be able to paint these:

(photo is likely to be awful, my @#$ computer is acting up. There's always something)

So what we got, all in 1/144 apart from the 1/72 Gripen?

Il-76, BAe 146, EA-6B, F-15, Rafale, Lightning, Typhoon (J-10?)

Yup. Well, it's the EAP prototype rather than the production Typhoon, but I can't tell the difference between them anyway.

I hope your Rafale will be a "what if" !!!!!
I love this plane very well !!!!

For the EAP, it had different engines, canards, air intakes and the "dérive" (don't know the english word... Tail???) of a Tornado.
It was a British prototype for the Typhoon, like the Rafale A was the French prototype for the Rafale M/B/C.

All you want is a rope fence and you've got a Farnborough type display - have fun in the paint shop Hobbes

I think the Rafale will end up as a 'real' aircraft, and so will the Gripen. The others:
- BAe 146 will get an AEW radar dish, and naval markings (probably MLD, the Dutch naval aviation service)
- Prowler will be MLD too
- A-50 will be mostly-real, but with some AA missiles
- F-15 will be in 'real' markings, but with Phoenix missiles
- I haven't decided about the Lightning yet
- EAP will be either MLD or RN (painted EDSG over white or light gray)

Any of you happen to know of 1:144 kits that have Dutch air force or Dutch naval aviation service (MLD) markings? There don't seem to be any decal sheets in this scale.

nev

Nick is the 1/144 expert.  Maybe an F-5 or F-16?  My Revell F-15 only has USAF markings.

Hobbes did the MLD use the Hawkeye or just the E-2 ? If so then the Revel kit may include them

The MLD never had an AEW aircraft. The Karel Doorman carriers were mainly used for ASW, so they carried Trackers. Nowadays, the MLD operates Orions from land bases.

Dutch air force markings  might be easier to come by, but my F-5 Tiger kit doesn't include them...

I'm working on a scenario where NATO decides it needs a carrier force. It license-builds a number of Nimitz-class carriers, and uses a mix of European (eg Harrier, Tornado, EAP/Typhoon, Rafale, BAe 146) and American (eg Prowler and Viking) aircraft on them. Carriers use NATO markings, the aircraft 'belong' to the member nations' naval airforces.

I've painted the Lightning, Rafale and F-15 today; they're light gray now. The paint is still curing, but initial impression is good. The Lightning is going to be in a modern low-viz scheme...
