hi !

Today was a holiday, so I had a full whiffing day !!!

While I posted the above pics, I thought I had reached the point of no return to sci-fi, so that my "Thunderbombtor" was everything but real... so I carried on, saying "ok chap let's go on !"

Now it's all shaped-up I got its backstory...

We're in 2050, and the northern (hemisphere) alliance, wanted a bomber capable of dealing with enemy bombers interception, just in case... as well as classic tactic a-bombing missions. The designers had in mind a remembrance of the aborted TSR2, combined with the ageing but still good B1Bs ... So, the "Thunderbombtor" was born.

Characteristics : 4 AB engines placed so that AA missiles won't damage 'em enough if a single hit is scored, forward swinging wings, and a crew of 3 (1 pilot, 1 defensive systems officer, 1 offensive systems officer). Mach 2, able to cruise thru high atmosphere layers, so as to hunt enemy satellites, exceedingly high manoeuvrability, could handle well in an air attack to fight back.

Of course, Canada was interested from scratch, and the camo will be kinda "digital"  (I remember a good example from Leigh with a hybrid F16Xl, awe inspiring...), dunno yet in which global tones, either, green, or sand, or blue, or a mix... but will sport the maple leaf !

Here are some pics of the Thunderbombtor !

Just let me know, you know, comments & feelings...

Regards,

Richard

Hey guys, let me know...

At first, my own feeling was it was too long, but then I found it good looking that way too...  ;)

Hi all !

As you really helped me with the design, could you bring me once more your ideas of a camo it may sport as to you ?

I think about some digital-like thing, with, say a ghost grey overall, and triangle or chevron patterns overall, in one light green and a clear blue, and another blue, a bit darker... with canadian markings on !

Thanks !

Regards,

Richard

Richard that is totally beyond cool! And this coming from a prop guy! You were discussing camo for it. I like some of those sponge-painted schemes I've been seeing on here lately. I think that technique might give it that modern, pixilated look you're after. Can't wait to see it painted!

wow, what is it with all the kitbashing round these parts lately?

No way, thats what gives it its character and makes it stand out!

Hi Brian,

I think I'll rally to Eddie's sponge technique, for it looks really good !

I will have to add putty and sand befor I get her to the paintshop. I think of a payload for her, done out of some 1/35 spare Exocet missles I have from a Heller Super Frelon kit I did not use, I'll disrupt them from their antisurface role, to an antisatellite one...

If ever sponge painted I can imagine her escort would be a Mirage/Hornet hybrid...

Regards,

Richard

Hi Nev,

Well I did add some Heller 1/48 Etendard IV wings, from a kit I'd never have built anyway... great enhancement to the machine, huh ?!?

Cheers,

Richard

Ollie

I just add this idea : make the top engines jettisonable, like a sort of booster pack that gets dumped when sub-orbit is attained...

I REALLY enjoy your imagination with this one. The size is is just right. Big enough to be different than anything out there. I will say that the sponge paint scheme is a lot of fun and unusual compared to most paint schemes that I've seen. As far as my hybrid being an escort, you will have to slow your monster down a bit, since my aircraft only has three engines. ;)   Great work and I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.

Wow....would you look at the size of that thing !

Crazy..........

Looks way cool, can't wait to see it all done up. Who needs that Macross stuff when you can do that !
