After their previous carrier, the HrMs Karel Doorman, was sold to Argentina, there was a brief period where the Netherlands were without a carrier.  They returned to projecting their will in 1979, with the commisioning of the newly built HrMs Karel Doorman, the third carrier in a row to carry the name (are the Dutch imaginative or what when it comes to naming their ships!).  The ship was an export version of the RN's CVA-01 class of carrier, and as such was able to operate RN types of aircraft.

The Karel Doorman went to sea with F-4K's and Buccaneers in 1979, and operated F-4K's until 1993 when they were replaced with leased F/A-18C's (themselves replaced on the carrier with Rafale M's in 2000).

Cool!

There's some interesting possibilities in your timeline. The Buccaneer replacement, for instance. Sea Tornado, anyone?

Watch it, bub.  :P

HA!  I post so many planes at a time, it's not surprising you missed this one or the other two.

In order to do follow ups, I need two things:  1) Decals, and 2) the models themselves.  And currently, I'm fresh out of Dutch decals, Hornets, Buccaneers and Rafale M's.  I am, coincidentally, heading up Great Lakes Hobby and Train right now, so that may change

BTW, with the weather being so crappy, and me having no time on nice days to photograph new builds, expect the next modeling blitz to be absolutely fracking huge (23 and counting... what, just because I can't find time to photograph and post finished models doesn't mean I stop building  B)  )

Did those decals come from a kit, or did you buy a decalsheet?

In our timeline Hobbes, Tornado's replaced the Buccs in the Maritime Strike role and the ex Bucc crews found that the Tornado isn't as capable as the Bucc in that role....

What was the problem? Range?

Yeah, and despite it being a supposedly superior aircraft, it was found wanting in the capability department as well.

I think the decals on this one came from a 1/72 Airfix NATO F-16A/B kit.
