Honestly, I dont care too much for WW2 japanese aircraft, especially IJN fighters. Theyre almost exclusively boring radial engined blobs in green or gray. Naturally, I had to make my sole japanese plane in my collection the least conventional one! No real backstory here, just a J7W in operational service, blackened from being pressed into night fighting.

The kit is a 1/72 hasegawa that i found at the miraculously low price of just under 11USD. The kit went together with minimum trouble, just the usual corner gaps and tight fits. I used this method for chipping the paint. I chose testor's flat black because it dries very quickly.

Kit decals were used, along with some spares for the tail number(dont tell anyone that they came off an RAF phantom. Shhhh  ) I chipped those too with a toothpick after melting them with Mr Mark Setter.

No changes to the actual model other than replacing a radio mast after breaking it off a dozen times.

A pretty fun weekend project, and a great excuse to rip off some paint in a satisfying fashion!

Dude you need to take better care of your models that ones got all the paint chipped off looks like it's been through a war or something

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

gooberliberation,

Cool looking plane!

I have one of those kits...mine came with the canopy frames pre-painted.
Too bad models of the Ju 188 and He 111 don't come with that feature, I am sure more of them would be built if that was the case.

I find the Shinden to be one of the best aircraft for Whiffing.  Another Whiffer did a set of images in "alternate" markings (Italian for example).  Here is a racer I did some time ago.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I wouldnt mind at least having more kits come with canopy-masks. I did my canopy framing with strips of painted label-maker tape. Not that realistic but quite the headache saver!
