QuoteThe EF-86T was a development of the world famous F-86 Sabre by North American aviation, intended as an high altitude recon aircraft, it was powered by an eggsperimental General Egglectric engine. However, no order was forthcoming from the USAF and the only prototype spent its life as an unarmed aircraft researching high speed, high altitude flight.
That's eggspecially nice! :P

Well, I'll throw my hat in the ring with my DeHavilland Vampire Bat parasite fighter.

Developed from the original Vampire, the vampire Bat was used in the last days of the Second World War as a parasite fighter carried aboard US B-36 bombers striking deep into Nazi territory up until the war's end in late 1947.

A jettisonable rocket pack under the rear fuselage boosts the fighter to high speed/altitude after deployment, while the jet engine sustains hte fighter and gets it home to allied airfields where it lands on a simple tailwheel landing gear arrangement which is extended by a pneumatic charge, but must be retracted gy ground crews following loadi

In addition to the standard Vampire armament of 4 x 20mm cannon, the space opened up by removal of the nosegear is fitted with a 40mm cannon.

So I got that going for me...which is nice....

There you go the Hawker 1216 Twin Boom VTOL carrier based fighter designed to replace SHAR.

MESSERSCHMITT 274 "Drachen"

In 1941 at the time of the development of the Me-262 Willy Messerschmitt had the foresight to envision a possible lack of Jumo engines. Dissapointed with the performance of the Bf-110 and  he concurrently designed and tested a twin engined fighter using existing airframes of the new 262 and two old Bf-109 powerplants. Two prototypes were successfully flown in almost secrecy, until two years later when a new generation of allied fighters demanded an immediate response from the Luftwaffe, Messerschmitt could reveal his Ace in the hole.
The Me-274 Drachen (Kite) was put into production straight away, the beauty of which was almost no new technology or tooling was required. Named not only after the bird of prey but also because of the box like shape the Kite first saw action in winter 1944 and proved to be a remarkable interceptor, easily a match in all respects to the P-51D , 274s devastated Allied bombing raids. Again in a moment of spectacular stupidity the RLM re-assigned the Drachen  to a forward support and ground attack role under the premise that the incoming ME-262s and 163s would be sufficiant as interceptors.
The Drachen excelled at low level handling and it's longe range enabled it to escort valuable trains and convoys, decimate forward allied troops and make short work of the opposing Typhoons and Thunderbolts. Logistics was the downfall of this bird of prey it became almost impossible to keep the forward posts supplied with fuel and nearly 90% of all 274's lost were on the ground, not having the fuel to get into the air and meet their attackers.

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid
