What if the SAAF got 2nd hand F-16's in stead of new build Grippens?

In Mid 2004, the Dutch sold their stored F-16's to the SAAF, who quickly repainted em in a new cammo scheme.

the photo shows F-16B 7812 just after leaving the paint shop.


The kit is ye olde Matchbox model, with a fair amount of filler. paint job is a mix of xrtracylic and humberol enamal. Decals are a mix of dutchdecals and modeldecal with a few bits from the kit decals.

I usually prefer the Gripen than the Viper, but this two seater looks very very good with that camo!!!
Did you inspire by a real camo sheme??

And where do the decals come from??

paint job is loosely based on the proposed Polish F-16 cammo, the deaclas were like i said either from the kit or from the dutch decals south african sheet or the model decal range

Nice on mate, we were offered the F-16 but turned it down due to the fact that we would have to rely on the Yanks for almost everything (see Venuzela)...

I really dig that camo! Another variation on that theme would be the camo thats currently on the Cheetah and will be on the Grippen
OR my all time fav SAAF camo of dark green/earth over gunship grey ala the Mirage F-1AZ  

My little SAAF whiff list is slowly growing and may now include a R/A-5C Vigilante tasked with conventional low level strikes on SWAPO bases...

Nice looking lawn dart mate. Although I am glad they went for the Gripen instead. Better to get brand new shiny toys to play with rather than used stuff, which is getting long in the tooth.
