Here's my last model to be posted for a while.  This is actually the one that got my on my WiF kick.  I was reading up on the old Zumwaly proposals from the 70's (the SCS and the later VSS), and got to thinking what their airwings would be like.  Then someone mentioned in the "Show us your current..." forum mentioned something about an AEW or AWACS version of a CH-47, and that got the wheels going.

This would be used off of US CVE's, CVH's, and CVP's (patrol carriers), providing limited AWACS ability to the smaller carriers.  It'd climb to altitude, and extend the lower radome away from the fuselage.

The model is an Italeri 1/72 MH-53E, modified with the radome from a 1/144 Revell E-2C.  I had a junked 1/144 Revell E-3, and thought about using its radome either in addition to or in place of the E-2's, but it didn't provide enough clearance below the hull, and I didn't think mast mounting it above the main rotor would be too practical.

anthonyp,

Fine work, very creative!

All your subjects, from both sides of the Iron Curtain, are quite amazing pieces of work, and should inspire the rest of us to get building!
