Now that I have learnt that TSR 2 would have been called Eagle, and of course HS 1154 was known as Harrier, I am now curious as to what was planned for the HS 681 transport.  Logically as it was an Armstrong Whitworth design it should have had an A name like Argosy.

Now that What if members have made TSR2s and HS 1154s it only remains to add the 681 to the famous trio.  As many of you know the three planes were part of an integrated "mobile" RAF designed to deploy to the Middle or Far East in support of a British Army Airportable Brigade equipped with Scorpions, Scimitars etc.  The RN supported a rival concept based on the Royal Marine Commando Brigade supported by CVA 01 and her escorts.  This concept was eventually realised in amuch different form when the Army and the Commandos deployed to the Falklands with much of the kit originally introduced for the 60s mobile force.

An airbase in the mid 70s would have been an exciting place.  TSR2s on one side, 1154s on the other.  Lightning F6s would have provided the fighter force. 681s, Belfasts and VC10s would have supported them, possibly with C5s as well.

Any artists out there who can make this real?

I'm kinda partial to either Avro or Armstrong Witworth Anubis myself.
