Hi fellows,

About 15 years ago I bought back from Japan some of those Doyusha Japanese plastic samurai sword models in 1/3 scale.

I'm down to the last one and need some help re gold paint for touch up work. Many of the parts are plated in a gold color and naturally some of it gets removed when you trim them into shape or remove them from the sprues.

How can replicate the gold plating with paint? Is there a gold paint on the market that goes on well and has a smooth bright very shiny finish?

Ditto re silver.

Any help grealy appreiated.

Hi Allan
why not use Gold leaf, it comes in small sheets, its not that expensive and you can get it in art shops.
Steve
ps if you can get any let me know as I have some spare.

I have tried Humbrol Enamel #16, and it is rather metallic rather golden while not perfectly shiny - it is ok for me   -_-  but not for your purpose I fear. :(

Hey, I have those little swords, too.  Fun doing the woven handgrips, eh?
Would go with Aircav's idea, using Bare Metal Foil's Gold foil.

Thanks fellows, for your comments.

I agree, Tophe, the Humbrol 16 just isn't good enough for what I want to do.

I'll check out the gold foil as soon as I have a free moment.

Yes, Baz, winding the cloth on the handgrips is a little tricky.

I've build four of them over the years and have found that small dots of super glue here and there just to tack everything into place is a good idea.

You can get Rub 'n Buff in gold, might work.
