RCN Super Hornet

Well, sorta.  Turns out the whole batch of pics needs to be retaken (little things like getting the digital camera too close, and not turning the flash off).  Here's the first of a big batch of planes that I'll be posting over the coming weeks.

This is a CF-18E (or CF-118E, or CF-188E, depending on how drunk one is when typing up the designation).  It was bought for use off of Canada's large carriers of the Formidible and Majestic classes (CVA-01 and CVV type carriers, respectively).  They supplemented the CF-18/CF-118/CF-188 Hornets that the RCN have been flying since the mid-80's.

This particular example is the CAG bird for HMCS Magnificent, the second CVV type ship purchased from the US.  It's armed for a long range land attack mission with three drop tanks, four AGM-154 JSOW's, two AIM-9L's, and two Meteor AAM's (bought in place of the AIM-120).

This is an Italei 1/72 F/A-18E, with JSOW's from the latest Hasegawa weapons set, and Meteors from a Revell Eurofighter.  The decals and paint scheme came from a Hobbycrap F2H-3 Banshee.  Overall, I really like this, and I know Rally will be happy the decals (as craptacular as they are) wound up on this plane, rather than what became a Brazillian F3H.

Kewl. I've always thought the bugs were pretty planes just boring in overall air superiority grey, but that's awesome in two tone.


Unfortunately someones gonna point it out so it might as well be me but I think yer fin flash is on backwards. Gary can probably confirm it 'cos he always does it

Fin flashes never end up the right way, as most times, they're that way in the pics on the box or someone dyslexic put them that way in the instructions (which is this case).  I especially love it when decal makers mirror the flag from what it should be (Aztec models did this with their Mexican flags).

I just figure the Canadians who painted the plane did it while drunk, then forgot what they did.

Great looking bird, Anthony ! That paint scheme is my all time favourite...even a bonified suprbug hater would have to like this one ! Cool missiles underneath as well...where'd you get those from ?

And at least you got the leaf right side up, which is more than can be said for the USMC colour guard !

Got those JSOW's from the latest Hasegawa weapons set (the one with a "12" on the side of the pack, comes three to the box, as well as three JDAM's, and some jammers).  The Meteors came from a Revell two seat Eurofighter Typhoon.

At least I knew which direction the roundels went.

Wow, and I just finished saying the bestest Superbug I ever saw was by JHM. Now I can't decide! That one rocks too! Hmmmm Superbugs with leafy roundels.

I just don't know what to do. Sounds like a good theme for a group build, Superbug in any colours other than Stars and Bars. (ducks)

And confirm... hmmmm, let's see, in the best political style, I can neither confirm nor deny the actual position of fin flashes due to the present situation of labour relations negotiations with the fin flash painters local 1313.

Seriously, I'd have to look at my example of how to not do a fin flash before I can tell ya.
