There aren't enough superlatives in the English language to compliment you properly on this.

Jeez, you're a modelling GOD! Peter, thank you! PAINT! NOW! Like a Rufe, but infinitely better

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Grear stuff Wolfik, I can hardly wait to see the finished product.

The Twin-Float Spitfire that I presented to complete Wolfik's Single-Float Spitfire was a Japanese model of 2003 named Floatfire, see http://www002.upp.so-net.ne.jp/Matsu-chiyo...pit-5-float.htm . Wolfik's asked me if it was 1/48 too, but I do not read (fluently enough) Japanese to answer. Which one of us do?

Anyway, between Twin-Float Spitfire and Single-Float Spitfire, my choice is: Twin-"Single-Float-Spitfire", also called "Twin-Float Twin-Spitfire", not from Supermarine but from the team Wolfik-Tophe. See the picture on the twin-tail forum at

With Soviet stars someday, it may be called WorkfikToff Dvukh-Morskoj-Spitka...

A small spot of technical nitpicking from a structural viewpoint.  It seems to me that both Spitfire and Bf109 floatplanes would be able to save a bit of structural beef-up by tying the struts supporting the main float(s) to the existing points the main landing gear legs tie to instead af adding structure to mount the floats to the wings or a single float directly to the fuselage centerline.  For a single float, I'd use a narrow V-strut with a small stabilizing strut at the back while two-floats would get canted struts similar to the ones for the ski-equipped Bf109E.

I had a friend of mine in Japan check out your Japanese text link there, Tophe:

It is actually the Russian kit manufacturer "EASTERN EXPRESS" and kit #72206.
I'm told they only make 1/72 aircraft kits.

Here's the kit
http://www.aviapress.com/viewonekit.htm?EST-72206

and here's a site listing all of Eastern Express' products (I only have one little Tupolev kit from them and have never built it):

You've been sneaking peeks at my What-If To-Do list haven't you?? Thief, thief!!  :P

I was pondering doing a single float RAAF Mk8 Spitfire in Grey Nurse markings  using the floats from a Rufe.  The single main float just looks so much better than the twin floats - much sleeker and Spitfire looking.

Can't wait to see what the finished item looks like.

The page http://www.fortunecity.com/tattooine/farme...0/spitfire.html seems to confirm the Twin-Float Spitfire was an actually built prototype, which is sad, while Wolfik's Single-Float Spitfire is a pure what-if model, great!

hi
yes it was planned to use these (IX ,one built) in the pacific in 1943 but the us art to make war was simply better  :tank:

the prototype was back configured to the "wheeled" aircraft
