Thai Tornado IDS

Here's a 1/72 Revell Tornado IDS.  It's one of those oooooold boxes, same vintage as their JG90 kits.  It may or may not be a rebox of the Airfix Tornado GR.1 (or vice-versa), as I've begun building one of those for the Airfix GB, and the cockpit is assembled the exact same way, as is the swing wing assembly.

I acquired a decal sheet with some Thai markings on it from Philp earlier this year, and had this old kit sitting around, looking forlorn in the stash.

The kit itself was a relatively simple build.  The paint scheme is based on the Iranian P-3F scheme.  Originally, I was torn between Imperial Iranian AF or Thai, but I found a model that really deserves the IIAF treatment.  The paint scheme still went on this little guy, though.

All in all, I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out, though painting all the little discharge ports on the MW-1 was maddening!

Not sure who Thailand would be going to war against, but I figure they'd fly out over the ocean to get to their targets, hence the camo.

Its either a MW-1 Weapons dispenser(about 2/3 down the page) or a portable pizza oven. Gotta keep them warm en route! ;)

Anthony,

That didn't stop them from getting an Aircraft Carrier (the Chakri Naruebet).  I'm sure Tornados could be justified.  Nice job.

actually quite close on what theyd probably be used for, anti pirate patrol.

Actually, I know who this thing's gonna go put the hurt on, but I'm not naming them in the thread.  My buddy's wife, who's from Thailand and probably looking at this thread, would probably tell me I'm having Thailand attack the wrong country, and not make me Pad Kana anymore  :P

You are the "Jennings" or "Gekko" in 3D/Styrene.
Love the way you come up with complimentary color schemes.
