Aircraft

Most What Ifs are colours and national markings.

English Electric Lightning - F6 variant armed with 4 Red Tops and two overwing
                                     Sky Flash

Canberra B(I)8 - Various laser pods and bombs

B25 Mitchel - Most guns removed, 75 mm cannon nose, anti ship variant

Hawker Hunter - Inline two seat trainer (forgot the project number) modified as
                        Wild Weasel.

I have several Airfix B29s. RAF Washington B1, a lates 1950s version, only the rear 20mm cannon turret, all others removed and faired over to give more speed etc.

Fairey Rotodyne AEW version. Also assault/transport.

Gloster Javelin - Four wig mounted (twin pylons) fire Streak missiles, four under
                       fuselage Sparrows.

Sea Vixen - Armed with Red Top and Sky Flash. Also strike version

Ships

HMS King George V modifed to 1960s standard. Some 5.25 inch guns removed, replaced by Sea Cat

HMS Hood, really stretching it but post war mods?

HMS Ajax, 1950s variant with helicopter pad in place of rear 6 inch turrets.

HMS King George V, again, modiifed with moderm 76mm turrets in place of Sea Cats/5.25 inch and Harpoon or Exocet containers.

As you can see most of these are based around Airfix kits but I have a 'Hawk in progress' by Italeri (is that the correct spelling). Varoius what ifs based around Mig15/17/19/21 but mainly colour schemes. I will put up some pictures soon and I am hoping to be back to a more permanent home soon so I can rescue my stuff from storage.

With the KG-V i would replace the 5.25 with either the 3 inguns of a Vic or the 4.5 Dual guns off the Darings. Fit Seatcat in place of the Pom Poms and then add a few 40mm Bofors mountings.

Nice ideas though, lokk forward to seeing them progress.

An idea for you to do the B29s as:

Blanked off turrets and 4 jet engines like on the B36.

Turbo props with 6 bladed props.

4 jets in place of prop engines.

AEW plane instead of constellation.

Swept tail and wing surfaces like that B17 KC707 mix.

Pointed nose?

Anti submarine conversion to replace RAF coastal comands Catalinas, B17s and B24s.

Gunship?

Idea for the KGV:

Pointed front, like the germans did to the scharnhorst or gneisenau, and all the weapons upgrades the USN did to the Iowa class.

By the way, the Javelin wasn't hairy, so I can't do 'wig mounted', I'll put them on the wings instead!

I've done some armour 'what ifs'. Not vert adventurous so far:

Centurion with Bofors 40mm AA gun
Centurion upgraded turret to Russian 100mm gun
Crusader with 75mm gun in open turret

I'm glad I found this site, lots of inspiration here.

Also converted several Sea Hawks to P1052 (?) types

Those are some great B-29 ideas, monkeyhanger! I've had a lot of fun with the 1/144 Minicraft offering over the years. One I "backdated" to 1940 or '41, givinging it blisters instead of turrets and a stepped nose, and another I whiffed into an airliner I call "Swords into Plowshares". Here's a pic:

Now there's two I've often toyed with the idea of, plus a Crusader as a 25pdr SP and a Centurion as a 5.5" SP

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
