Converted from two Islander kits and some plastic sheet, using an article dug up from the short lived Almark Modelworld magazine from 1972 (never, ever throw anything away).

Based upon the concept that all RAF stations should have had communications aircraft, this is the one from RAF Laarbruch in the mid seventies, when 15 and 16 Squadrons were based there with the BAC Eagle GR.1. My theory is that all RAF stations were issued with either Islander CC1 or Trislander CC2 aircraft to form a station flight, the choice of aircraft being dependent on the needs of the station.

I hope to provide a full article on it's construction in the next What If SIG magazine.

I remember hearing these go overhead when I was at college in Southampton in the late 70s - a very distinctive sound ! I think they ran a ferry service to the Channels Islands out of Eastleigh

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Nigel that's absolutely fantastic! I love how you added the third engine on the tail! She looks great in those RAF colors. This one's a real eye-catcher!

Whew!  Neat plane...the prop wash would've been awesome!

theres a small fleet of em island hopping around the channal islands, the locals love em.

it was BN's idea to uddate the islander while useing something like 80-90% of the islander, infact if your spares dept is geared up to surport islanders it can also do the trilander with out any changes.

Neato ! Like I said earlier, love that camo. Nice conversion as well. Looking forward to reading the full report.

I've only ever saw one of those, when i was in Leurbost, it flew over the Minch about 5 miles away. Always nice to add another 'oddball' to the aeroplanes I've seen fly list !

;)

Love it

Was always pissed off that when we went to Guernsey on a school trip there where Trislanders on the runway and we had to go on some butt ugly Handley Page Herald or something.

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

Looks great but I pity any birds that get in it's way...it slices, it dices, it chops and julianes ;)

Nicely done!.

Now, that's a cool conversion!
Did you even rework the cabin windows?

Sure like this one.  What an interesting subject to have on a shelf, too, whether at a show or just in your own living room.

Way to go!
