Hi all,

Seeing as most 60's to 70's era British aircraft have black cockpit interiors would it be feasible that Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation built TSR-2's had black cockpit interiors too?

Secondly, would "upgraded" 90's era TSR-2's have the low intensity formation light panels fitted? and what type of, if any, ECM/chaff-flare dispensers would have been fitted?

Hi Mark

Welcome aboard.

The TSR2 cockpit was a medium to dark grey colour so i would imagine the CAC examples would be the same.

As for the formation markings i'm not sure, its a US trend and not one ive seen on RAF aircraft (except for US designs)m but its quite possible the RAAF would modify theirs locally if they felt the need.

BTW Ask Spellbinder about the Austrailin cluster bomb as its possible tht would arm the RAAF CAC TSR-2

Cheers

An interesting "Almost Was" weapon to arm the RAAF Eagle with is the Karinga cluster bomb that was developed in the early 80's but dropped as costs would exceed buying the American CBU's.

Classic Jets Fighter Museum in Adelaide has a deactivated example of the bomb but I am unaware of any online references to it.

I als have memories of a locally developed bomb ejector rack after the introduction of the F-18 that could be applied for a subtle difference. I believe the SA Historic Aviation Museum at Port Adelaide has one of those .

The RAAF seems to either use locally developed ECM systems or buy off the shelf from US sources. I really think your options would depend on time scale and apply what was used on the F-111 or applied to the entire RAAF inventory over the period.
Scabbed on TRACOR pods as per the RAF Jaguar fleet have visual appeal but are perhaps an inelegant option. I would perhaps lean towards a more integrated system applied during one of the Eagles Mid-Life Updates and perhaps add flush mounted flare/chaff dispensers and a fin mounted RWR "mars bar".

For chaff/flare dispensers, perhaps something like the units mounted on French Jaguars?  Perhaps along with pylon-side units or modified pylons to carry such internal to the pylon?

Another weapon you could fit would be the Australian Kerkanya glidebomb:
