Since real life (read "work") got in the way of my completing this in time for the Airfix Group Build deadline, I'm moving the thread over here for current progress.

As of today, the silver test paint has finally revealed a sanded finish which I can live with re: the blending in of the mis-matched fuselage components:

And with the protective tape removed, we have a cockpit/canopy back!

Wow Mr Howling Mouse incredible project! In the words of my girlfriend, "my that's pretty!" I'm impressed....your work on the new canopy is great...you can't see a seam or where you modified the fuse to fit it!

The cool thing is if I didn't know what you used it would be driving me nuts because it looks undefineably familiar!  I really like the look of this one.
