Only references I can find on the 'net are re: sims.

I know the Sturmovik was equipped with snow-skis but did the real plane ever fly with floats?

Pretty sure it didn't.  While Russia has a lot of lakes and rivers, the front moved so fast in most cases that it wouldn't have been feasible to operate combat a/c from them.  Also, the drag created would have killed the Sturmovik.  There was really no need for it, as they had *plenty* of ground to fly from.

Ahhhhh, good!   Floatplane it must be, then.  Maybe a weekend fishing plane for Tophe....

Reminds me of what my flight instructor told me once as we were flying over the fields and farms of North Texas- "No worries if you lose your engine. Just maintain best glide and pick a spot, here in North Texas, the world is your runway!"

A mate of mine whilst a driver in the RASC was driving a 3 tonner in the Kuwati desert and still hit something - his accident form asked how wide the road was ? He put a thousand miles and promptly got 28 days  :P

Back on track have checked "Encyclopedia of Russian Aircraft" and there's no mention of a floatplane
