Ok here's my options for the Sea Vixen replacement
- Br.1120 Sirocco (just like the Jaguar or Br.121 ;) ) join program with France
- Blackburn 141 (two RB-172) or 146 (one spey)
- The Crusader mentionned on page 1 of this thread (Spey and the like)
- Jaguar M (with more powerfull engines)
- Vickers 580 / 590 series of machines (583,585,593... already mentioned!)
- Mirage G
- Mirage F1M
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Hmmmm...

RAE assesment suggests of four aircraft types looked at that option C is the best.

This being a VG machine with scaled Spey engines.

Length:? Folded 52ft
Span 30ft at 74 degrees sweepback, 53ft at 25 degrees.
Wing Area: 400sqft
Engines: ?

Interceptor role has 6,000lb weight
Strike role as 8,350lb weight

To weight limit for 151ft BSmk4 catapult, ISA+25 degrees with a 25kt deckwind, 44,100lb. With reheat off, 27,000lb

Weight with full internal fuel, intercept role is 41,300lb and for strike 43,650lb.

Weight with external fuel (300gal) intercept role, 44,150.

Loiter periode, intercept configuration, full internal fuel 3.6 hours, with external fuel 4.4 hours.

Max speed around mach 1.95, Combat speed mach 1.7 at 36,000ft.

Landing speed interceptor configuration 131kts, strike 135kts. Deckwind required interceptor 21kts, strike 27kts.

ferry range full internal fuel 2,900nm, maximum catapult TOW 3,400nm with two 225gal drop tanks.

It seems possible to choose in the design between the states high loitering endurance or higher combat speed and peformance. The latter option resulting in:-
Max speed increased to mach 2.3
Ferry range down to 3000nm
Loiter down to 3.5 hours
Its not clear if this effects the size and weight of the machine.
To win without fighting, that is the mastry of war.
