Has the IPMS or any other organization ever noted which nation(s) have the highest percentage of active modellers respective to their population?  Realize that not all modellers are IPMS members and some places may do more to encourage membership than others, but it seems like their rosters should be a good place to start.

I'm pretty sure Japan has the highest, although not via IPMS...  That's my lived experience anyway.  If you simply look at the number of model *companies* per capita, Japan has to have it.

Not to mention that the Japanese have all those cool model kits in just about every genre (and high quality too!). B)

I was gonna guess japan as well, just by the fact that they have sooo many cool toys etc. And alot of 'em are like trading cards. Imagine if you could walk into the corner shop and buy a wee box for 2 bucks, and you didn't know if you were gonna get a 144th scale Spitfire or Sea King ?

Too cool........

CANADA KICKS arse !!!!

I was about to say the same thing. We are certainly proportianally more obvious than Americans here, and possibly on ARC, but I can't remember the population of the UK so I won't take a guess how we stand there.

Keep in mind that many modelers might not participate because of language difficulties, so that will skew things somewhat.

Anyway, I've noticed on gaming websites that there are a disproportionately large number of canadians there too.  And a similarly small number of Aussies, for a country that has a similar size and population.

I'm pretty sure its all to do with climate.  Having lived in Oz I've witnessed first hand how its an outdoor culture compared to Britain.  When my aussie friends came to stay over here they we "oh my gosh!  you have pay TV!" (Sky).  I'm like "uh, nearly everyone has Sky.  What else are you going to do on Sunday evening in February?"

The Canadian factor is probably because we're so gregarious (read; drunk), outgoing (drunk), helpful (drunks always want to help), self-effacing (drunks know their problem), and ebulliant (trying spelling that when you're drunk).
