From the Magna rather than the film:

What aircraft are the tri motor sea plane and what could the tiger striped, grey machine be based on?

Thanks,

Porco's seaplane is a Savoia S.21 -- Hobby Link Japan has kits of this plane in both 1/48 and 1/72.

The Pirates' plane is loosely based on a pre-WWII Dornier Do J III Wal with twin tails and some sort of bizarre bubble cockpit.

Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part...

I got five of the Curtis R3C-0's after I saw that one over on Hyperscale. I sold one on Ebay several months ago. All in all it is a really nicely done kit, only draw back is that the nice little history of the aircraft/Schnider cup that comes with the instructions is only in Japanese but the instruction are in both English and Japanese.

Though know it appears that the R3C-0 is sold out

by the looks of it, i say the badguy plane looks like a Beriev MBR-2.

The trimotor is most similar to the Short Rangoon:

But it shares features of numerous other large biplane flying boats of the period..its pretty much a hodge-podge.

Go rummage around in the photo gallerys on the Sea Wings site and you'll see what I  mean.
