my newly purchased copy of Jane's Aviation Review, 3rd Ed 1983-84, hen I found an interesting short artictle by Bill Gunston concerning the RAF's then shortage of heavy airlifters.  His suggested contenders were interesting and I thopught that i might share them with you, for comment and as insperation.

2nd hand Lockheed C-5 Galaxy's with 4 x Rolls Royce RB.211-535E4 or H4

these being several tons lighter and 40% less drag and 33% better fuel burn.

or how about these:-

Lockheed C-141 with 2 x RB-211-535H4

Antonov An-22 with 4 x RB211-535H4

Illushin Il-76 with 4 x RB211-535C or 2 x RB211-524D4
Reality is for people who can't handle Whif!!

Now with more WHATTHEF***!! than ever before!

This caught my eye. Only 2 engines on a C-141? Then I checked the specs for the 141, and found they only develop 9,300 kgp each (less than half that of the RB.211) so it'd be doable. The C-141 must be smaller than I thought.

Simmie, the C-141 is very close to the Il-76 dimensions & weights wise (copy an American design!  How dare you, Comrade?!?).  The 9,300kg (21,000lb) thrust per engine of the C-141 compared to the 12,000kg (26,000lb) thrust of the Il-76 gives it a disadvantage in payload capacity, although the range is better.

You should maybe save your pennies for this 1/72 beast from Blackbird models:

You could then put a whole convoy of JB Models lovely little British vehicles your RAF version.

Time to sell the bed......
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Interesting notion, but the cost of redesigning the C-141 wing would be horrendous.

King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

I've no idea how good it is but being such a large vac-form I guess it's going to need a lot of patience.

Lonewulf state that they only keep one in stock at any one time because the box is so bloody big!   I trawl their site every now & again & I haven't seen it before so I guess it's newly available.

If you do order one, prepare for any 'significant other' to have an immediate sense of humour failure when seeing the size of the box (not to mention when she finds out the price!), it'll also probably put the Postman's back out, so he won't be too happy either!

Dimensions of a 1/72 C-5 will be:
Span: 0.94m
Length: 1.05m
Height: 0.28m,
