Not surprisingly we don't have a thread for Frog, or not one that I could find, but the name has been revived.

When my Airfix Magazine landed on the carpet this morning with an extremely loud thud there was an announcement in it to the effect that the name was bought by Peter Chaing back in 97 from Hornby. He is using it to market re-boxings of modern toolings by his Singapore based company Hobby Bounties. Some stuff has already been released. The latest is Academy's 1/72 F-16 with markings for the Royal Singapore Air Force.

Not something I was aware of, but nice to see the name being used again.

FROG were always a company to do the weird and wonderful kits, who else would have released a Martin Maryland bomber and a Fairey Firefly DINGHY in the same month! I've still got one of each of them too.

I rather hope the new owner continues in the same vein.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Frog were the saviours of fleet air arm modellers before Airfix ever discovered that the British ever put aircraft to sea!

Rheged

According to Wikipaedia the, FROG brand name (said to stand for "Flies Right Off the Ground") originally used on the Interceptor Mk.4 semi-scale rubber-band powered flying model, launched the following year. Also in 1932, a marketing partnership with the toy company Lines Bros Ltd. was formed and other Frog brand flying models followed. In 1936, a range of 1:72 scale aircraft models in kit or pre-built form, moulded in cellulose acetate, was launched under the Frog Penguin name (alluding to the non-flying nature of these models). These were the world's first plastic model construction kits. An early release was the No.21P Empire Flying Boat, issued in 1938.

There are several FROG kits I'd like to have, starting with the  Empire Flying Boat!!

The Mk 4 and 5 Interceptors not only did 'fly right of the ground' but it said so on the side of the box too.

My brother and I had 3 - 4 of them at various times and they were exceptional.

The early Penguins were made of cellulose acetate and were notorious for warping like crazy, and only some of them were manufactured after WWII in very early polystyrene. I'm not sure if the Empire Boat was in that category, but if it was it'd be a superb model, as it came with a full interior, cabins, beds, cockpit, galley etc.

Just been bought as a name with which to sell other peoples tooling's Kit, perhaps with different markings. No original tooling's planned, at the moment at least, so purely a marketing tool.
