QuoteI like that earlier varient looks nice.

Assuming the hypothetical F-107-"D" had a larger radar and nose (I read the F-105D had an enlarged nose over the "B") how would you fare
that larger nose into the lines of the aircraft? As it is, the lines of the nose naturally flow quite smoothly from the airframe. A larger nose might look awkward?

F-107 Plans
Actually, I don't know that the hypothetical F-107D would have a larger radar and nose.  I believe the F-107's radome is already sufficiently large to accomodate a larger radar but if a larger one was needed, I'd expect a longer, sharper one that'd give the larger antenna more room to move in.  The interesting stretch will be the tandem-seat two-seat trainer which would provide a starting point for a Wild Weasel variant.

Recent reading I've done seems to confirm this. The F-107's fire control system was retained for use in the F-105--and this is how the F-105's nose came to be enlarged in the "-D" . . .  enlarged to house the radar that had been designed for the F-107.

F-107 under construction. Useful for planning a bare metal F-107 stationed in Germany for the tac nuke delivery role.

This shows the basic outlines of the various contrasting metals. Now, which panels might be painted aircraft grey? How far back the black nose radome? Anti-glare shield? Red acdents around the air intake? Suggestions?

I spoke with Skylancer decals last night, and they seem to be very interested in releasing a series of "what if" decals, including possible F-107 units.

QuoteThis plane is very interesting, but I always prefered the early variant (mockup) with the ventral air intake (from aircrafts stories)
This layout always makes me think of some kind of mutant X-31...

And that low-slung intake screams "FOD! FOD! FOD!" at me  ;)

Can't remember who make this 1/72 scale kit of the F-107 (trumpeter if I remember well).
always asked myself if we can make this mockup after some hard surgery...
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.
